Wornels Reef reborn as Bay of Beruwela

Wornels Reef Ltd, a subsidiary of the Colombo Fort Hotels Ltd, refurbished at a cost of Rs 300 will be re-launched in December to cater to up market tourists visiting the country during the winter season next month.

The new hotel has been named as "The Bay of Beruwela ".

This was announced at a media briefing held at Club Palm Bay Marawila last week by officials of the Colombo Fort Hotels Ltd, that owns Wornels Reef Ltd.

The refurbished hotel which has a room capacity of 105 with 4 spacious suites is located in a sprawling eight acre property at the picturesque Golden mile stretch at Beruwela.

Colombo Fort Hotels Director Operations, Nishadar Periya Perumal said the hotel has been designed in such a way to provide tired guests mostly with jet lag time to relax a bit before checking into their rooms.

The guests arriving at the hotel's entrance are escorted through a rain forest full of butterflies to a enclosure where a tea ceremony is performed in the presence of Percussionist and a Flutist. Thereafter the guests are escorted to the main lobby area which can accommodate around 350-400 persons.

Colombo Fort Hotels Director, T. Thiyagamoorthy said a remarkable feature of the hotel is that from every room, a panoramic view of the ocean could be observed.

The other features include a well laid out restaurant from where the Rain Forest and the Ocean could be viewed. Palms, an air conditioned 24 hour coffee shop with glass panelled to view the lobby area, an open air theatre, Fisherman Warf, a speciality sea food restaurant on the beach, an elevated beer garden giving a scenic view of the ocean, a pub and a library with pool tables a state of the art Business Centre, a large fresh water pool along with a kiddies pool and a well designed Ayurvedic centre.

Luxury resort to lure tourists

The signing of a MoU between Fortress Resorts Limited and Per Aquum Resort and Spas has given the latter the management of Fortress Resorts Limited a luxury boutique styled hotel.

Fortress Resorts is a two storey building modeled on Dutch architecture and will comprise 40 luxury suites and two presidential suites.Built at a cost of Rs.700 million by the Connaissance Holding Ltd, this luxury boutique style hotel is located conveniently in the vicinity of the Koggala airport and spans across 3.3 acres of land with 600 feet of beach frontage.Operations will start next winter.

Managing Director, Per Aquum Resort and Spa,Tom Mcloughlin said, "we are delighted to bring the Fortress into the per Aquum collection.Sri Lanka is showing tremendous potential for growth and we believe that Per Aquum's management experience combined with that of Fortress Resort Ltd will ensure that Fortress becomes Sri Lanka's premium resort."

He said that they hope to provide 125 direct job opportunities through this venture. Deputy Chairman,Connaissance Holdings Dhammika Perera said under the Per Aquum's experienced direction the Fortress will bring unsurpassed levels of design ,service and hospitality to Sri Lanka whilst retaining a truly natural environment.

The Fortress Resorts was formally known as Hotel Club Horizon which was demolished and rebuilt. (CM)
