GSCL introduces buses suiting local road conditions by Hiran H.Senewiratne General Sales Co Ltd (GSCL) has tied up with Chinese based Hongqiao bus company, to introduce Hongqiao luxury AC intercity tourist and passenger buses to Sri Lanka. GSCL has initially introduced two models to Sri Lanka, namely Hongqiao HQK 6850 luxury type and HQK 6700 passenger type , which are suitable for country's road conditions, its General Manager Ravi Senanayake said. He said "Hongqiao is entering a promising market with a modern bus concept as a solution for Sri Lanka's transport problem." "Initially the company launched three buses from both models,which got tremendous recommendations from buyers," Senanayake noted. These two models have 29 and 35 passenger seat capacities which will initially be introduced to hotels in the country, specially targeting the tourism industry,he said. The unique features of these buses are that they are more economical than European and Japanese buses and have a grand outer look compared to European buses, he said. The running cost of these buses are comparatively lower than European and Japanese buses, since these buses are four and six cylinder types, he added. Hongqiao conforms to all strict emission and safety norms with more fuel efficient engines suited to local roads. These buses are suitable to the local conditions, as it is simple in operation and has less complicated technological devices, he emphasised. The price of these two buses start from Rs three million and goes up to Rs six million. The company has set its own target to sell 200 units before the end of 2005. The sole agent for the Hongqiao brand is GSCL, the sister company of Swedish Trading Company, which is the sole agent for the prestigious Volvo brand in Sri Lanka. |
