Lovebirds enjoy company Lovebirds are smaller versions of parrots. They don't mimic words as well as parrots do. They are mostly very colourful birds. They were named as Lovebirds because a pair of these, sitting together preening each other resemble lovers . These birds are peculiar as they are loving only to their respective partners and don't extend love to others of their own kind. Lovebirds are small enough to fit into standard size cages. This lesser space is ideal for housing the cage indoors. Lovebirds enjoy human company. Humans become their flock. These birds show that they love you by their constant chattering and accompaniment. In fact, if you ignore them, they will chatter noisily until you give them attention.Lovebirds enjoy splashing in a shallow bird bath. You can use a small water pistol to squirt water on them occasionally. After coming into contact with water they love to comb their feathers. You can feed your lovebird with commercial bird food. But if you have time, it is cheaper to cut fresh fruit and vegetables for your lovebird. Offer small quantities and don't forget to discard decayed leftovers daily, from the cage. They are very active and playful. They are very social and form deep bonds with their owners. Hand-raised babies make the best pets. Their normal chirps and squawks are not overly loud but they do like to chatter. Some say females are more apt to mimic sounds or speech than males. It is a common myth that lovebirds must exist together in pairs. If you want a loving companion, it is better to buy just one lovebird. If you have more than one, it is better to house them separately. Two lovebirds housed together will be rapt with each other and ignore the owner completely. But if you are busy with school work and are away from home most of the day, then a second lovebird will be the playmatefor the first. |
