Dinesh to be released after Ramazan? Abducted Sri Lankan truck driver Dinesh Dharmendran Rajaratnam's family has received a Ramazan bonanza of Rs.105,348 (Kuwati Dinars 300) from the Kuwati Transport Company, Deputy Foreign Minister Vishwa Warnapala said. Vishwa Warnapala told the Sunday Observer he is optimistic that the Sri Lankan Dinesh Dharmendran and his Bangladeshi colleague held hostage by an islamic guerilla group 'Ansarul Sunnah', would be released shortly today or tomorrow, coinciding with the islamic Ramazan festival. "I have made a fervent appeal to all concerned in that part of the world, especially the religious leaders, via Al-Jazeera TV, requesting Dharmendran's immediate release. I am not aware whether it had been broadcast to the intended viewers. The war in Falluja seems to be hampering the release. We are also using all means at our disposal via our diplomatic channels in Kuwait, Quatar, Lebanon and Saudi Arabi for his release. Our Kuwaiti Ambassador is in constant contact with the Kuwaiti Transport Company Chairman Jassim Mustapha Bootai who has sent 300 Kuwati Dinars as a Ramazan gift to Dharmendran's family in Hendala", Warnapala said. However, the saga seems to be continuing with Dharmendran's wife Doreen Rita and her three sons await his release in anguish. Dharmendran had been abducted by the guerilla group on October 29 while driving his truck into a US base in Iraq. (RM) |
