Forged currency recovered two Port Authority employees arrested by Jayampathy Jayasinghe Two young men were taken into custody by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) following the discovery of forged Sri Lankan currency notes from two houses at Rabukkana and at Gintota last week. On a tip off, a team of CID officers raided a house in Rambukana and recovered forged currency notes hidden in an almirah of a person. He was a minor employee attached to the Sri Lanka Ports Authority in Colombo. There were 154 of Rs 10 denomination notes, 80 of Rs. 500 notes and 50 of Rs 20 notes. After questioning the suspect, the sleuths learnt the notes were printed at a house of an another person residing at Gintota. He too was a minor employee attached to the Sri Lanka Ports Authority and both suspects had known each other for some time. Sleuths who visited the Gintota house later found 40 of Rs. 1000 notes, one Rs 500 note, 40 of Rs 100 notes and 25 of Rs 50 notes. All forged notes had been printed at the Gintota residence by using a laser computer technology. Meanwhile inquiries are being made ascertain whether any forged notes have entered the circulation. The two suspects were taken before the Kegalle Magistrate and remanded till inquiries are completed. |
