AMCHAM eyes Lanka as regional hub by Elmo Leonard A 15-member Indian business delegation whose companies are linked to corporates in the United States visited Sri Lanka last week. The visit by members of AMCHAM - American Chamber of Commerce India, was in reciprocity to the visit by a Sri Lanka AMCHAM delegation to the subcontinent earlier in the year. The high-profile Indian delegation represented a cross-section of US companies in the subcontinent, some of who are already active in business in the island, the AMCHAM Sri Lanka president, Kishore Rao told the media. The series of meetings the visitors held with the Ministers of Labour, Finance, Commerce and Consumer Affairs and Board of Investment (BOI) were intended to facilitate a more positive environment for foreign investment while giving special focus to current labour laws, policy-making processes and possible changes in taxes, leader of the Indian delegation, Amit Kiran Singh said. He is Vice President and South Asian Director of Brown Foreman Worldwide. The other delegates comprised Executive Director of AMCHAM, India, Ramesh Bajpai, Managing Directors of Becton Dickinson, India, Ram Sharma and V Sourirajan, Chairman of Cargills, India, Hardeep Singh, Senior Vice President, Cisco Systems India, Sudhir Naranga and other high level representatives from Indian multinational corporate sectors. While this delegation represented a variety of industries and sectors, its key focus in Sri Lanka is to form links with local companies that cater to the domestic and export markets as well as the foreign investment sector. |
