GMOA protests against malicious news report The Government Medical Officers' Association (GMOA) in a press release issued yesterday denied and protested against a report in a Sinhala daily that it had prepared the Consultant Specialists Annual transfer list 2005. It said "In July 2004 the GMOA protested against the release of the Specialists annual transfer list for 2005 by the Ministry without its observations taken into consideration. "As a result of this protest the Director General of Health Services temporarily suspended the release of the list pending the observations of the GMOA. "At the meetings that followed with the Director General of Health Services it was mutually agreed to align and adopt the national policy for the specialist services in the preparation of the list of vacancies. "Subsequent to this the specialists transfer list was finalised and released in late October 2004 by the Director General of Health Services. The GMOA was not in any way responsible for the transfer list but insisted on transparency and provided our observations and suggestions certain changes to provide an equitable service to all grades of people of this country in line with the national health policy." "The news report has been published with malicious intent to bring discredit to the GMOA and the Director General of Health services, the release alleged. The GMOA alleged that a Deputy Director General and a consultant paediatrician had connived to publish the wrong report. |
