The selection of teachers will be made from qualified youth from the plantation areas, said Labour and Foreign Employment Minister and Kegalle District UPFA MP Athauda Seneviratne promised this, addressing a meeting at Yatiyantota, Garagoda Sinhala Vidyalaya. He said, not only children of estate workers education will be improved, but also problems of Estate workers will be solved by the Government. Their immediate problems will be resolved without delay. It has also been decided to open Sub Post offices in plantation areas, and to appoint in every Grama Niladari Division, Educated Plantation Youth as Registrar of Marriages. These proposals will be implemented soon, the Minister assured. Mr. Seneviratne said "I am obliged to look into the grievances of Estate workers as I close associate of them and they have been supportive of me throughout" for which I have to reciprocate. He said that the closing of rural schools is baseless. It is the responsibility of parents to avert such a situation by sending their children regularly to school. Parents, the Minister stressed should co-operate with teachers and help them to discharge their responsibilities. He would also appeal to teachers not to neglect the education of children under their care. As a Government Mr. Seneviratne said, they could only resolve shortcomings in schools, but providing education depended on teachers and parents. |
