Non-Sinhala literates handicapped

by Anthony Fernando, Puttalam District Roving Reporter

Tamil and Muslim residents in Mahavilla, Kalpitiya, Mundalama and Puttalam Provincial Secretarial District, who are unable to converse and write in Sinhalese, are as a result badly handicapped according to S. A. Yehiya, MP.

A distressing fact was that despite a circular being sent by the government to the Provincial Secretaries to allow such handicapped residents to liaise in their language, this had not been implemented, MP Yehiya said addressing a press conference recently.

As such he appealed to the relevant authorities to move in the matter.
