Peradeniya PGIS program on Chemical Resources The Board of Study in Chemical Sciences of the Post-Graduate Institute of Science (PGIS), University of Peradeniya has organised a three-day workshop on "Chemical resources for new industries" to be held from December 17-19 at the PGIS, Peradeniya. The PGIS program has been arranged to provide a forum for discussion of the potential for new developments based on scientific research conducted at universities and other research institutions. Among the papers to be read at the workshop are "Alternatives for depleting mineral resources" (Prof. O.A. Ileperuma, University of Peradeniya); "New industries based on clay" (Prof. D. T. B. Tennakoon, University of Peradeniya; "Peat based new industries" (Prof. R. Weerasooriya, IFS, Kandy): "New industries based on graphite (Prof. P. Touzan, France); "Local mineral resources for Hi-Tech ceramics" (Prof. B.S.B. Karunaratne); "Polymer based batteries (Prof. M.A.K.L. Dissanyake, PGIS, Peradeniya; "New industries from local gem minerals" (Dr. R. Fernando, University of Peradeniya); "Tea catechins, valuable food additives and fine chemicals" (Prof. N.S. Kumar, University of Peradeniya); "Phytochemicals for crop protection" (Dr. P. Bandara, HORDI, Gannoruwa); "Fine chemicals from agricultural waste" (Prof. A.M. Abeysekera, University of Sri Jayawardanapura); "New horizons for herbal products Dr. S. Wijesundara, Botanical Gardens, Peradeniya); "Solar cells" (Dr. U. Wijayantha, University of Peradeniya); "Industrial applications of inorganic nanoparticles" (Dr. A. Navaratne, University of Peradeniya).
