President Kumaratunga’s visit to Iran

President Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga, the first Sri Lankan Head of State to visit the Islamic Republic of Iran, had wide ranging discussions with President Mohammad Khatami on issues of bilateral interest. The discussions centred on the commitment towards friendly relations and mutual understanding between the two countries to further promote co-operation on issues of bilateral interest. Both leaders agreed to further strengthen friendly relations between the two countries.

The Defence Minister of the Islamic Republic of Iran Adm. Ali Shanikhani called on President Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga on Thursday evening at the Boostan Palace, Tehran. Foreign Minister Lakshman Kadirgamar and Defence Secretary Cyril Herath are also in the picture.
