Minister promises impartial inquiry by Bharatha Mallawarachchi Public Security, Law and Order and Deputy Defence Minister Ratnasiri Wickremanayake yesterday promised a full and impartial inquiry into the incidents in the North during the past few days. The Minister was responding to two matters of breach of privilege raised by MPs Wimal Weerawansa and R. Sampanthan in Parliament yesterday. Minister Wickremanayake said he had received the reports relating to the incidents mentioned by both MPs, from the military. Now that he had heard out the MPs he would go into the matter in depth and order a full and impartial probe into the incidents. "I was informed by Mr. Sampanthan last night by phone that he was going to raise this matter and I decided to come here with an open mind". Weerawansa said a protest march led by one of the JVP MPs in Trincomalee was illegally obstructed by the police. Sampanthan said one of the TNA MPs had a pistol held to his head by one of the Army officers in Vavuniya. |
