LTTE attacks two AIU soldiers

In an apparent intensified attack on soldiers attached to the Army Intelligence Unit to provoke security forces, five LTTE men waylaid and hacked two soldiers attached to AIU in the general area of Nunavil, Chavakachcheri around 7.30 pm on Friday while they were returning to their camp after duty.

Five LTTE men waiting in ambush had confronted those two soldiers and went on hacking forcing them to seek admission to the Palaly Army hospital with bleeding injuries.

Both soldiers received serious injuries to their heads, limbs and faces. As their condition turned worse, they were airlifted to Colombo National Hospital.

Troops have recovered one sword and live T-56 ammunition from the location during an immediate search.

This attack by the LTTE during their heroes' week is the latest of LTTE's cowardly acts launched with a motive to provoke security forces. The Sri Lanka Monitoring Mission (SLMM) was kept informed.

The Chavakachcheri police are conducting investigations.
