Talduwa Rally Cross today

The Talduwa Rally Cross 2004 organised by the Sri Lanka Army Electrical and Mechanical Engineers and conducted by Motor Racing Association and Sri Lanka Racing Riders Association is scheduled to held today at Kelani Valley Race circuit from 9.00 a.m. onwards. Associated Newspapers of Ceylon Ltd (ANCL- Lake House) has joined the above as the print media sponsor while Sirasa is the Electronic Media sponsor.

This was disclosed at a media briefing held at the Army Camp at Salve Island.

Brigadier Wasantha Bandara, the Chairman of the Army Motor Sports Committee said that this year Electrical and Mechanical Engineers have taken the responsibility of organising the event which is an important one for the Sri Lanka Army.

The Motor Sports Committee has served the Army's disabled soldiers and the families of soldiers who sacrificed their lives through welfare section.

From the proceeds collected from these motor racing events the welfare association has built houses and also helped the children of soldiers for their education. The Kelani Valley races is sure to receive the support of all as it serves a good cause said Brig. Bandara.

The Kelani Valley track modified to avoid the tarmac is to be a permanent track for motor sportsmen, said Richard de Zoysa who represented the MRA. He said "The track was made with the consent of the Avissawella Club. He also said that the track once fully completed could be used by all motor sportsmen & women for training.

The day's programme will consist of 24 events (14 motor cars & trucks, 10 motor cycles events). For the first time the organisers have included two races for children 5-10 years and under 16 years. Four Racing events for Bikes 80 CC, 125 CC, 250 CC and open and four events for Trail Bikes in different categories.
