Sinhala Welenda Peramuna honours businessmen by L. B. Wijayasiri in Kandy At the 32nd Anniversary of the Sinhala Welenda Peramuna, five distinguished businessmen, industrialists in Kandy were conferred with honorary titles and special prizes in recognition of their services to the industry and the society. Among the recipients of titles and prizes were chairman of Kandy Tyre House and the MAG Group of Companies M. A. Gunatillake. He was conferred with the title of Bhoomi Prabha Rashmi Kirana and awarded the special prize by Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapakse at the 32nd anniversary celebrations of the Sinhala Welenda Peramuna held at the Mahaweli Reach Hotel, Katugastota, recently. Businessman Gunatillake started his career on a very small scale 25 years ago, as a collector of used tyres. Within the past 25 years he has reached commendable status in automotive-related accessories production, distribution, export and import fields. He is the Chairman of MAG Group of Companies under which 11 companies including Kandy Tyre House are functioning. Recently ISO 901-2000 certificate was awarded by the Sri Lanka Standard Institute to MAG Leaf springs produced by this Group at one of their factories at the Pallekele, Kandy, Industrial Park of the BoI. It has a branch in Australia as well. Gunathilake has provided employment to a large number of youth apart from a large number who have been provided with indirect employment. |
