With reference to our lead news item on page 1 last week titled "Rapido dooms Mahapola", GTECH Lanka (Pvt) Ltd., the firm managing online lottery of the Mahapola Trust Fund has informed us that they are not involved in the online lottery Rapido.

They also state that the American company GTECH did not launch the Rapido. GTECH, however, has shares in the Sri Lankan firm GTECH Lanka(Pvt) Ltd. that is managing the online lottery of the Mahapola Trust Fund called Magic123. They were also emphatic that the Mahapola Lottery Code of Conduct strictly prohibits the use of telephones for lottery play.

The online lottery game Rapido is managed by a Norwegian concern Norsk Tipping which has also contributed US$ 3 million to the capital of the Online National Lotteries (Pvt) Ltd., a subsidiary of the National Lotteries Board.
