Solheim here tomorrow by Ranga Jayasuriya Norwegian special peace envoy Erik Solheim will arrive in the island tomorrow for another round of shuttle diplomacy between Colombo and Kilinochchi to kick start stalled peace negotiations. But, a spokeswoman for the Norwegian Embassy described the visit as a routine visit and said that no breakthrough was expected during the visit. Solheim will meet the President and government ministers and visit Kilinochchi on Wednesday for talks with LTTE political chief S.P. Thamilselvan. "We don't expect anything special to happen," the spokeswoman for the Norwegian Embassy told the Sunday Observer. "The main objective of the mission is to keep contact with the two parties," she said. Solheim was to visit the island late November, but his visit was postponed at the request of LTTE theoretician Anton Balasingham in London. Solheim's visit also comes in the wake of the heroes' day address by LTTE leader Velupillai Prabhakaran, in which he urged the immediate resumption of peace talks based on his movement's ISGA proposals, warning that the failure to do would force the Tigers to resume their struggle. |
