Bank Unions accuse GOH General Manager by Ananda Kannangara A mass scale irregularities and frauds, alleged to have been committed by the General Manager of the Grand Oriental Hotel (GOH), Colombo have been disclosed by two major Bank of Ceylon unions. The Ceylon Bank Employees' Union and the Bank of Ceylon Staff Officers' Association on Wednesday claimed that the said General Manager who assumed duties in 1997 had cheated the management and misused the funds for his personal benefits. "During his tenure the said GM had lavishly used funds, obtained from the GOH for various personal purposes including to purchase equipment for three of his hotels located at Piliyandala , Pamankada and Kotahena," General Secretary, Ceylon Bank Employees' Union Gamini Karunaratna said. He said that the unions are also aware that the construction work of the two hotels at Piliyandala and Pamankada, owned by the said GM was also carried out from the GOH funds. "In one occasion this GM had allegedly used Rs. 1.3 million for personal entertainment of his family members and relations," He said in addition, the family members of the GM is still holding three hotel rooms of the hotel for their private use and the expenses of these rooms were borne by the BOC. |
