NDB Trust Fund for fishermen The National Development Bank (NDB) has set up a Trust Fund to help the fishermen who have lost or damaged their fishing boats by the recent tsunami disaster. The fund will provide money to buy new boats or repair the damaged ones, a NDB press release said. The tsunami disaster destroyed nearly one third of the county's fishing boats. The Trust Fund has been initiated with Rs.10 million provided by the NDB. The bank is calling for donations from individual and institutional well-wishers. The Fund will be managed by the employees of the NDB who will personally supervise the purchase and repairs of boats and the distribution of funds to the most needy fishermen via the bank's branch network along the costal line. The fund will be audited by Ernst & Young Chartered Accountants. Since all the administrative costs will be borne by the NDB 100% of the funds raised will reach to the fishermen, NDB assured. Donors will be kept appraised of the progress via the website www.relief.ndbbank.com. On-line payment facility is also provided through the NDB website. Alternative payments can be made in cash at any of the NDB branch or by bank drafts, cheques or telegraphic transfers made out to "NDB Fishermen's relief Trust Fund." Apart from this, NDB staff has donated money for immediate humanitarian relief to the victims of the disaster which is distributed through the bank's branch network and the Sarvodaya movement. |
