Holcim sets up Fund

The employees of Holcim cement are putting the plant at Galle back into operation and a small immediate relief centre has been opened catering to the victims around our premises.

Due to this disaster, the country as a whole has sustained huge damage. We feel that as a leading company we have to make a significant contribution to support the reconstruction of the affected regions of the country. We have set up a fund dedicated to the reconstruction of the country, making it possible to build hospitals, schools, children's homes and houses in the communities affected by the tragedy states a release issued by the company.

The objectives of the Fund are:

The Holcim Tidal Wave Reconstruction Fund shall provide shelter for the thousands of people affected by the tidal waves that hit the coastal regions of Eastern and Southern Sri Lanka on the 26th of December 2004.

The Fund will lead, facilitate and assist, as well as finance the reconstruction of hospitals, schools, children's homes and low-cost dwelling schemes. The Fund shall be active in all the regions hit by the tidal waves.
