AIS prize giving and graduation The annual prize giving of the American International School(AIS) was held recently at St Peter's College Hall, Bambalapitiya. CEO, Sherryn Yaseen-Mangalagama addressing the gathering said that the American School has grown from its infancy to an institution that is striving towards excellence and is also creating an atmosphere for children to develop their skills and talents. She further said that the prize giving is the culmination of academic achievements and it is an opportunity to recognize and reward the prize winners and the graduands who have qualified to join the secondary school. The Keynote address was given by Professor Harendra De Silva, Professor of Paediatrics of the Kelaniya University and Chairman of the National Council for Child Protection. He said that children should be accepted for what they are and demands for the impossible should not be made. Children, he said should not be given targets beyond their capabilities. The message was clear that the harassment of children would be counter-productive. The Principal's report was read out by the Principal, Hyacinth Dahanayake reiterating to the parents the progress of the school in the year 2003-2004 and the targets to be achieved in the year 2004-2005. |
