Private sector help vital to use funds by Hiran H.Senewiratne The international relief funds that come into the country for re-construction and rehabilitation activities in tsunami devastated areas, should be utilised in a more systematic way, President- SAARC Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Macky Hashim said. He urges the government to have an immediate crash plan to utilise international funds jointly with the government and private sector for all re-construction and rehabilitation activities in the country. "Unless private sector takes part it will lose the opportunity to use funds in a more systematic way," Hashim said. All financial donor assistance that comes into the country should be credited to a one consolidated fund to manage and monitor them strategically, he emphasised. He said that they are in the process of inviting Sri Lankan expatriates to help all re-construction activities at this crucial juncture. He said that he had communicated with all member chamber in the region on this tsunami catastrophe and Nepal, Pakistan and Bangladesh had extended the support. Hashim also said that the government and the private sector should assist affected people to go back to their business and added that it that is not done the country will have a negative impact towards the GDP growth rate. President -Federation of Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Sri Lanka (FCCISL) Nihal Abesekera said that the chamber and banks are now in the process of assessing the damage. He said that they are touched with all its affiliated chambers in the country, to assist the affected people to put their life back to normalcy. |
