The world of science Science is all around us The world of science is all around us; from the objects that we use everyday like telephones, calculators, radios and televisions to more complicated concepts like nuclear energy, computer technology and space science. Science has changed human lives, making things simpler for us. However, it has also made the world a more complicated place. Experiments which earlier would have taken years to complete have speeded up, thanks to developments made in the field of science. Things which may have puzzled our ancestors are no longer wonders to us, thanks to modern science. New discoveries are being made everyday, so much so, that our future success depends on our awareness about these new developments. At the same time, new mysteries which baffle scientists are cropping up every day. But, did you know how the word 'science' originated? It has come from the Latin word which means 'to know'. Human beings have always been curious to learn about the world around them. You yourselves may be asking a thousand questions from the adults around you about the things that you see and hear everyday. Scientists look for answers, develop theories and check them out, by conducting controlled experiments. In this sense, they are also like detectives. All scientific discoveries have been made by scientists who have been curious enough to go that extra mile. From this week, the Junior Observer will bring the world of science to you. We will tell you about the latest discoveries in the world of science, new technologies, how things work and also explain simple experiments for you to try. So, read on! |
