S. Korea Premier pledges substantial aid Rohan Mathes reporting from Hambantota In the aftermath of the disaster caused to Hambantota by Tsunami a high-level delegation from South Korea comprising the Prime Minister Lee Hae Cha Foreign Minister Ban Ki Moon and Transport Minister Kang Dong Suk visited some affected areas with Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapakse on Friday, January 07. Witnessing the destruction caused, Premier Lee Hae Cha said, "In the face of the great disaster and heavy damage caused to your country we will do everything possible for the reconstruction and rehabilitation of your people, to live an ordinary life." He said that they would bring the heavy machinery required for the relief operations and would assist in stages according to a specific plan. They would also assist in re-building the crippled fisheries industry of Hambantota. The Korean delegation visited a Korean relief aid medical centre at the Sippikulam Primary School, the Christ Church, the Darme Kaba Jumma Mosque and the Salterns, among others. The Korean Ambassador in Sri Lanka Lim Jea Hung also accompanied the delegation. |
