Chinese Ambassador Sun Guoxiang on behalf of the Chinese National Red Cross handed over a cheque of US$100,000 to Sri Lanka Red Cross Society (SLRCS) on Wednesday at the Chinese Embassy in Colombo, a SLRCS press release stated.

SLRCS volunteers continue to assist the displaced in Galle, Matara, Hambantota, Trincomalee and Ampara providing first aid services, conducting mobile clinics, cleaning wells and distributing food and other urgent needs, the release said.

Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies from several other countries including India are continuing to support the SLRCS in its relief operations to Tsunami victims.

Meanwhile, European Union Commissioner for Development and Humanitarian Aid, Loiuse Michael who joined SLRCS officials to tour the affected areas in Galle and Batticaloa said that EU will stick to its relief pledge to support aid effort for a year, the statement said.
