SLIC covers all Sri Lanka Insurance Corporation Ltd has decided to cover all motor vehicles affected by the Tsunami disaster though such insurance policies do not cover earthquakes, a Corporation official said yesterday. Sri Lanka Insurance Chairman Harry Jayawardene has said that insurance companies should waive certain provisions at times of national disasters. Sri Lanka Insurance Corp. has launched a comprehensive publicity program over the electronic and print media to allay fears that affected vehicles would not be compensated. Jayawardene has appealed to all vehicle owners affected by the disaster to make their claims as insurance payments are effected within a short period to help the affected. Old man rescued A 68-year old man who is believed to have been trapped inside the rubble in Galle town for 14 days was rescued by two youths from the Shahana organisation who admitted him to the Karapitiya Hospital on Saturday around 1.30.p.m. Senior Supdt. of Police Galle, Lasantha de Silva however said that nobody had seen the vagrant being rescued from the rubble. A doctor has to examine him and pronounce whether he had starved for 14 days. It is possible that he had fallen unconscious among the rubble while searching for food, he said. A kidney patient requests help Kantie Costa, aged 53 years and residing at 360A, Sellakande Road, Mahahunupitiya, Negombo is suffering from end stage of renal failure. Dr. A. L. M. Nazar, Consultant Nephrologist of National Hospital Colombo has directed for an urgent transplant of a B'positive kidney to save her life. Public help is solicited, by way of a required kidney and cash, as her family is not financially capable of meeting the cost of the operation.
