26 swimmers in national pool

by Leslie Fernando

Sri Lanka Aquatic Sports Union (SLASU) has picked 26 swimmers (16 men and 10 women) and they have been included to the national pool in preparation for future international swimming meets to be held here and abroad.

According to C. Vijitha Fernando, Vice-President and media spokesman SLASU said that the best swimmers were selected from their performances at major meets conducted by SLASU in 2004.

The 26 swimmers will come under the national swimming coach E. G. A. Wilson and they will begin training at the Sugathadasa Stadium swimming pool from January 15. The swimmers will be provided all facilities by SLASU.

Fernando added that SLASU is planning to get down a swimming coach from USA or Australia, but the main problem is the huge sum of money involved for the coach's travel and accommodation etc.
