The former is presently in Bangladesh for three Under-18 tournaments, while the latter, left the island last Wednesday to play in two ITF Men's Futures tournaments in Qatar and Dubai. The first international tournament to be staged in the country will be the 22nd Junior (Under 18) International Championship which is to be run by the SSC and worked off on their own courts at Maitland Place. This ITF Group V event is from February 14 to 20. The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Sri Lanka Tennis Association (SLTA), Lionel Almeida, told the Sunday Observer that the SLTA is keen that clubs too get involved to run an event of this nature and promote the clubs, but the SLTA will do the ground work. Meanwhile, the Davis Cup (Asia/Oceania Zone Group III) tournament is to be worked off in Hong Kong in July. Sri Lanka gained promotion last year (2004). |
