Call for action - SLIM Awards 2005

SLIM Awards 2005 have been converted to a tsunami disaster relief fund raiser, said Chairman SLIM Awards 2005 Jagath Gamanayake. It was decided unanimously at a recent meeting of the Executive Committee and the Ad.

Awards Committee 2005 of the Sri Lanka Institute of Marketing to convert the much awaited Annual Advertising Awards ceremony into a Fund Raiser. The Accredited Advertising Agencies' Association and International Advertising Association (IAA) along with SLIM, recognized the possibility of making this event an opportunity to bring the marketing and advertising fraternity of this country under one banner. SLIM has pledged 75% of its net profit from this event, to a Fund that will be used to finance a development project to be specified by the Centre for National Reorganisation.

The Awards ceremony will be held on a low key, pertinently remembering those who lost their lives and those whose lives were changed forever when the tsunami hit Sri Lanka.

The Marketing and Advertising world will pay their respects to these people who form an integral part of this industry. The event will also be used to generate as much funds as possible for this worthy cause, enabling both institutions to initiate a long-term relief program that would have a significant impact on the lives of those affected by the tsunami and will bear testimony to the genuine empathy and concern this industry has for its fellow citizens in Sri Lanka.

The industry feels an intense need to give back something to society for keeping the industry alive.

SLIM Awards-2005 will be held as scheduled, on March 5 2005 at the Sri Lanka Exhibition & Convention Centre.

SLIM has also decided to extend the closing date for entries for the regular advertising categories to February 5 2005 and for the Marcom categories to February 15 2005.

On behalf of SLIM Awards 2005 Committee, Chairman Gamanayake expressed his sincere thanks to the sponsors of this year's event ABC Network, Nestle & Emerald as Main Partners, DLB as co-partner and Event partners - Hotel Trans Asia, Ac Neilsen, SLECC & SriLankan Airlines, Carlsberg, John Keells Office Automation, SoftWave and Friends & Partners, media partners are Sun FM, Shaa FM, Rupavahini and Lake House.
