Caltex rewards outstanding marketers for 2004

"Caltex is the preeminent lubricant marketer in Sri Lanka. This level of excellence is simply not awarded but earned. And is a reflection of the overall level of sustained performance of the larger team.

We have a commanding knowledge of our market, healthy resources-geared to satisfy the most demanding customer and market expectations, and arguably the strongest lubricants sales and marketing team-passionate about consistently leading and shaping industry dynamics..." Shibly Latiff, General Manager Sales & Marketing, Caltex had these words to offer colleagues of Sales & Marketing during the Marketer of the Year 2004 awards presentation held at the Trans Asia Hotel recently.

The ceremony was graced by Sri Lanka's cricket team captain Marvan Attapattu as its chief guest.

Caltex, in an effort to encourage the Sales & Marketing team to further themselves not only for the company's benefit but for the individual as well, the "Marketer of the Year" program was launched in 2003.

The event recognises those outstanding performers of the year, with the intention to affirm that their efforts were indeed both noticed and appreciated. Therefore, four individuals from the retail sales, one from the commercial and industrial sales along with one individual from marketing support services were recognised for their efforts and commitment.

Pradeep Athurugiriya was adjudged the best company Sales Representative for his positive attitude towards change & challenges. His exposure of working in two other regions helped him achieve his overall targets for specialty products sales.

Mathendra de Soyza, the new kid on the block, joined Caltex in 2001. His hard work and dedication paved him the path to be promoted as a Sales Executive in 2003. But above all, he's a guy who applies marketing theory into practicality. For this feat, Mathendra de Soyza was awarded the Best Marketing Executive of the Year for 2004.

The coveted Marketer of the Year award & the Best Regional Sales Manager of the Year 2004 award was won by Sarath Gunasekera. Sarath counts over 16 years of work experience and has been with Caltex since 1997.

Gunasekera, one of the senior members of the sales team, took on many challenges and contributed immensely for the re-modelling of the distribution plan. A guy who challenges everything from the word 'go', he was recognised for his apt guidance of his team and overall performance which met the organisation's expectations.

Arjuna Imbulpitiya was adjudged the Best Commercial and Industrial Sales Engineer for his "lets do it safety or not do it at all" attitude towards safety by living the Chevron Texaco culture. His excellent team spirit, result orientation, accolades and achievements also enabled towards the contribution of profitability for the organisation.

The most outstanding Marketing Services Support Member award was clinched by Ranjith Jayawardene. A dedicated team player for whom its all about achieving set objectives on time in full.

Apart from the above recognitions, the organisation paid special tribute to 13 sales and marketing colleagues who had been safe for 365 days in 2004.

A six-member panel comprising the Managing Director was part of the selection of winners who had to send in entries of their work, for the corresponding year. It is envisaged that such programs will without doubt adeptly contribute towards the motivational level of a winning team!
