Dutch tourists to donate fishing boats by Chanuka Mannapperuma A group of Dutch tourists who escaped the recent tsunami tragedy while holidaying in Sri Lanka have come forward to extend their assistance to Sri Lankan fishermen to rebuild their lives. According to Director operations of Visit Sri Lanka (pvt) Ltd, Ajith Benjamin at present there are 307 donors from Netherland who are willing to help local fishermen "each one will contribute 1,000 Euros which would be sufficient for one boat and these boats will be distributed among fishermen in Galle." This group of donors following their safe return to the home country have decided to donate fishing boats to the fishermen in the affected areas with the support of their travel company FOX Vakanties. "The fishermen are selected according to the statistics of the Ministry of Fisheries, said Benjamin adding that boats will be manufactured locally at the Ceynor Foundation."This endeavour will also help the tourist industry in Sri Lanka. The name of the donor will be painted on the boats," explained Benjamin adding that this would encourage donors to visit Sri Lanka on a later day. |
