Some 104 houses to be completed in June by Ananda Kannangara A massive construction of 104 individual houses in small blocks of land for tsunami affected victims at Thuduwegoda, Hikkaduwa will commence on February 20 under the purview of Ministry of Public Administration and Home Affairs. The Help-Sri Lanka, a Colombo based international organisation that has undertaken the construction work of the houses is expected to spend over Rs. 100 million on the project. Minister Amarasiri Dodangoda told the 'Sunday Observer' that the houses scheduled to be completed within ten weeks will be handed over to the recipients before June this year. Meanwhile, Minister Dodangoda on Monday laid the foundation for the construction of 50 individual houses for fisher families at Paraliya, Telwatta with the help of 'German Helps', another international organisation, currently working for the welfare of tsunami affected families in the Southern District. 'German Helps' also distributed 18 fishing boats, worth over Rs. 4.5 million for fishermen who lost their fishing equipment during tsunami. |
