MoU to provide consultancy services for SLIIT students

A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed recently between the Sri Lanka Institute of Information Technology (SLIIT) and International Scholar Educational Services (Pvt) Ltd (ISES). As per the MoU, ISES will provide consultancy services to SLIIT students who wish to study overseas.

SLIIT is the largest government accredited IT Training Institute in Sri Lanka. The government established SLIIT in 1999, as a response to meeting the growing demand for suitably qualified IT professionals within Sri Lanka.

At present there are around 3,500 students studying for degrees and Diploma courses. The Edexcel institute of UK is the governing body for the accreditation of UK degree courses overseas.

Edexcel has accredited the Diploma course awarded by SLIIT as equivalent to the Higher National Diploma awarded by British Education Institutes. In September last year SLIIT signed an agreement with the well-known Australian Technological University, RMIT, where students completing the SLIIT Diploma will get guaranteed entry into the third year of the RMIT University's Information Technology degree program.

Another option available to SLIIT students completing the Diploma is either to read for a Degree awarded by SLIIT or read for the Degree awarded by Curtin University in Perth, Australia. Like RMIT University, Curtin University gives two years credits, and the SLIIT Diploma student can complete the Degree in one year, either here in Sri Lanka or at Curtin University in Australia.

ISES is the representative in Sri Lanka for nearly fifty universities and institutes of higher education in Australia, UK, Malaysia and India. Among the institutes represented by ISES are Monash University, RMIT University in Australia, Brunel University in UK and Nottingham University.

During the last five years ISES has helped hundreds of Sri Lankan students with advice on studying overseas and other career issues. There is no fee for the consultancy services provided by ISES. The services include career advice, selection of courses and institutes, advice on cost of studying in different countries and visa procedures of different countries.
