Golf coach Stevens here again

by Lal Gunesekera

Henk Stevens, the internationally recognised coach from the Netherland, is here on his fourth visit to the Sri Lanka Golf Union (SLGU) as it bids to upgrade the standard of the sport in the country. He has been recommended once again by Royal and Ancient (R & A).

"Tremendous interest has been shown every time when Henk has visited the country and this was quite evident with the increasing numbers coming under him for lessons. This is ample proof that golf is fast becoming popular in this country," said the Secretary of the SLGU, Priya Fernando.

His programme includes lessons at the Royal Colombo Golf Club (RCGC), Nuwara Eliya Golf Club (NEGC) and Victoria Golf Club (VGC), all members of the SLGU.

Henk Stevens on his previous visits to Sri Lanka, helped Lalith Kumara when he was an amateur. Kumara, won the India, Pakistan and Bangladesh amateur titles, and is now a professional who has qualified to play in the Indian Professional Golfers' Association (IPGA) tour.

Henk's wife, Anita, who is also accompanying him, too is involved in his programme, with Ms Radha Sunderampillai assisting them.
