Benefits of regular bathing

We all like to have a clean and clear skin which is glowing with health. This is not difficult to achieve if we bathe or at least wash ourselves well everyday.

The glands in our skin secrete perspiration and skin oils which ooze onto the surface of the skin through the tiny openings on our skin called pores.

These secretions will mix with the dirt and dust in our environment, and form a layer over our skins. Unless we clean our skin everyday, the skin will become irritable and sore, leading to the formation of boils and pimples and also itching. This layer of oil and dirt will close the skin's pores, blocking the flow of perspiration to the top.

As perspiration is one way through which the human body gets rid of its impurities, they will remain inside our bodies with the perspiration flow blocked, causing various illnesses.

Bathing with soap and water removes all these impurities from the skin.

Clean rain water is the best for bathing, as it rejuvenates the skin and promotes blood circulation. However, it is better for little children, old people and invalids to bathe in warm water, which has a soothing effect, opens the pores of the skin and promotes perspiration. While bathing, the body should be soaped and rubbed thoroughly with a clean cloth or a scrub to remove the dirt.

After the bath, the skin should be dried properly and the wet clothes replaced with dry ones.

The practice of walking home in wet clothes after a bath in a river or tank is not wise, as you could catch a cold this way.

Drinking hot water after a bath is said to prevent one catching a cold.

Another point that you should keep in mind is to splash the body with cold water after a warm bath during daytime. This will close the pores that were opened by the warm water. This is not necessary if you take a warm bath at bedtime; then, you should quickly get into dry clothes and get into bed without allowing yourself to catch a cold.

This way, you will have a healthy and glowing skin in no time at all.
