Chopper prototype detected by Anton Nonis A Sri Lankan returning from Germany was nabbed at the Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) yesterday morning while attempting to smuggle in a prototype of a helicopter, Customs officials said. He was caught while going through the green channel. Investigations reveal that the passenger, a youth from Kopay in the North in his early thirties. He had arrived in a SriLankan Airlines flight. The machine which weighed about ten kilos, was packed inside a box, and the miniature was of considerable dimensions and operated by remote control, customs sources said. The machine was confiscated and the suspect was handed over to the CID for further investigations. The detection was made by Assistant Superintendent of Customs, Vipula Fernando.
