by Lal Gunasekera

Two of Sri Lanka's most promising young amateurs together with two others leave for Delhi on Wednesday to compete at the All-India Open Amateur Golf Championship scheduled to be staged from February 25 to March 4.

The two youngsters are Mithun Perera (son of former champion and professional, K. A. Nandasena Perera) and schoolboy Binupa Wijesinghe. The former won the RCGC Championship as well as the Sri Lanka Junior Open title, while the latter, runner-up in the RCGC Championship, has been faring pretty well in various tournaments in both Sri Lanka and overseas, and has just returned after a coaching programme in Singapore.

Tissa Chandradasa, who is also back in the country after a stint in the Middle East, too goes to Delhi together with Prabhakaran, the reigning Sri Lanka amateur champion. Priya Fernando, Secretary of the Sri Lanka Golf Union (SLGU), accompanies the foursome to Delhi as manager.

Lalith Kumara, who won the All-India title last year, has since turned professional, and has also won the national amateur titles in Pakistan and Bangladesh.
