Water wells restored in tsunami hit areas

Managing partner of RTT ECOholidays, Kadawatha Rohan Fernando, volunteered and undertook the task of cleaning wells, starting from the Government Hospital of Nakulugamuwa, Tangalle, initially with volunteers from Colombo.

Up to the end of second week of February they attended to over 300 wells and five tanks in Tangalle, Kudawella, Moraketiara. Rekawa, Kahandamodera, Wellodaya, Hambantota and Ambalantota. The Parappuwa tank at Wellodaya had been used by the whole village and was full of debris and foul smelling salt water. It had taken four days of 24 hours work for the company to drain the water and clear the debris. The Sri Lanka Navy Base in Tangalle, the villagers and the Water Resources and Drainage Board in Hambantota, co-operated in this task.

After their work in Tangalle and Hambantota is completed they would be moving their operations to Arugam Bay in the East coast shortly.
