Veteran Marketer heads Gem Institute Veteran Marketer and Management Specialist C.A.N. Perera was appointed as Chairman of Sri Lanka Gem and Jewellery Research and Training Institute by the Minister of Advanced Technology and National Enterprise Development Rohitha Bogollagama recently. Perera said that Minister Bogollagama has advised him to develop the Gem and Jewellery Research and Training Institute to be the main consultative arm in the Gem Industry. In order to achieve this the Institution will establish close cooperation with the universities, research institutions and other relevant organisations. The best technology available in the world will be introduced for gem mining, cutting and polishing while training courses will be introduced to provide skilled manpower for the Industry, Perera said. An old boy of Thurstan College Perera has served at Unilevers for over 30 years before functioning as advisor to the then Minister of Industries, Secretary General of Yugedekma Industrial Exhibition and Director General of the Indian line of Credit Service Bureau. Perera is a Fellow of the Sri Lanka Institute of Training and Development and is its present Treasurer. He is also a member of the Sri Lanka Institute of Marketing. |
