'Cyclone' comes to town

by Mahes Perera

A year ago, five young talented guys banded together following the craze of being a 'new band on the scene', since they found that most of their friends were grouping together and being musically hip.

Getting a name for themselves was quite problematic but they settled for 'Cyclone' with the intent of crashing through all barriers they may have to face in the music industry.

Their moves paid off and were soon featured at hotels in the south. Now the band is concentrating on moving into the Colombo scene and are playing at the KEG on Saturdays; at the World Entertainment Park.

Led by Chaminda Suranjith who is a versatile singer with a catchy husk to his voice, and whose repertoire includes the contemporary hits, ballads and rock classics. He is the keyboardist for the band. Frank David a six-footer handles the majority of the vocals and is a devoted fan of Stevie Wonder.

His cover they say of Stevie wonder's classic Master Blaser is now an anthem in the band's repertoire. The guitar work is handled by Sugath Sumeda supported by Indika Nishantha on bass and Chamal Pushpakumara on drums.

"We enjoy playing at pubs and night clubs, and we have played for weddings and dances. We are well balanced.

Our repertoire includes the music of the 'Commodores', 'Toto', Stevie Wonder and ofcourse hits and classics from the international charts.

At present we are jointly managed by Aubrey Weiman of Heat and Sean Dharmaratne of Revelation" says Chaminda the leader who believes like the group's managers that the band has good potential and will be a success story. So watch out for more changes in the music and styles that you usually hear in the industry, as Cyclone is gearing to upset the norms!
