TAP placed under District Project

The construction of 30,000 temporary houses for tsunami affected people under the Transitional Accommodation Project (TAP) will be placed under District Project Offices shortly to be set up in each tsunami affected areas.

The Commissioner General of Essential Services has directed Government Agents/District Secretaries to set up these offices within the next few days. Meanwhile the TAP has been set up at the Salu Sala premises at Jawatte Road, Colombo.

The TAP was launched to provide decent temporary housing with adequate ventilation and sanitation standards for families living in tents and other makeshift shelters.

A large number of international and national agencies such as UNCHR, UNICEF, ILO, OXFAM KARITAS have come forward to finance these temporary units.(JJ)
