GMOA wants firm policy on OT The Government Medical Officers Association (GMOA) yesterday condemned the Health Ministry's improper policy on overtime payments and deficiencies in financial decisions. Secretary of the GMOA Dr. A. B. Padeniya in a letter to the Director General of Health Services Dr. H. A. P. Kahadaliyanage said that due to the limited allocation of funds and failure to give instructions on methodology of curtailment various hospitals adopt ad hoc limitations of overtime payments. "The limitation of funds has exceeded by 50%", he says. Dr. Padeniya said that the GMOA made an in depth analysis of the issue and feels that the Ministry of Health has no proper policy on overtime payment and this ruling is unfair by Medical Officers who are already on a limited extra duty allowance. He urged that current curtailment of overtime should not affect grade medical officers since they claim only 25 percent or four hours for 16 hours of work overtime. Dr. Padeniya requests the Ministry to reconsider the decision on "No extra duty payment for some medical officers, Limited extra duty payment to medical officers though hours of work are not limited, unlimited overtime for Nurses and MLTs who are entitled to claim for the total period of work, piece rate payment and special fifth day payment for MLTs. |
