Chandrika wins shuttle triple crown

Former national champion Chandrika de Silva (in the absence of champion Thilini Jayasinghe due to injury) won the coveted triple crown at the 21st Ariyadasa Silva Memorial Open Championship of the Sri Lanka Badminton Association (SLBA) at the Royal College Sports Complex on Friday night.

Chandrika won the Women's Singles title for the 10th occasion beating Sulochana Ariyadasa in straight sets (11-1, 11-3), and partnering Rasangi Kalpana won the Women's Doubles title and the Mixed Doubles title with Clarence Hormer.

N. J. John clinched the Men's Single title for the firs time beating Erange Fernando in a three-setter (15-7, 11-15, 15-5). The latter is from Maliyadeva.

A niece of the late Ariyadasa Silva, Mrs. Chithrangani Mubarak, the mother of Sri Lanka cricketer Jehan, was the chief guest and distributed the awards, while Jagath Gamanayake (Assistant Manager, Marketing of National Savings Bank) was the guest-of-honour.
