Program to register industrialists, craftsmen extended The program initiated by the Ministry of Small and Rural Industries to register industrialists and craftsmen has been extended till April 30. The Chamber of Commerce maintains a register of large scale industrialists but since there is no formal place to register the Small and Medium scale industrialists, the government faces many difficulties, a spokesman for the Ministry of Small and Rural Industries said. A small percentage of SMEs are registered under Pradeshiya Sabhas, Urban Councils and Provincial Councils while some industries are registered under several local government authorities. There are several miscalculations and therefore the Ministry has decided to register all small industrialists and craftsmen systematically and maintain an Information Bureau. This will help them obtain a host of benefits, the spokesman said. The registered industrialists will receive a government recognised identity card, recognition when obtaining bank loans, identify industrialists who don't come under the 1,000 Industrial Village Program and provide them tools, technical knowledge , raw materials as well as advice, provide a local and international market to sell the produce and introduction of a pension scheme are among the benefits planned for the SMEs and craftsmen program. |
