From NCAR to NKAR Tours and Travels

NCAR Tours and Travels Ltd established in 1980 changed its name to NKAR Tours and Travels Ltd to encompass the many facets in the company's current portfolio, a spokesman for the company said.

He said the company has now grown from a small business entity to a medium size professional outfit. Our new plans are to make large investments in the areas of Human Resource Development, modern technology and infrastructure development.

We have set our goals to study, analyse and arrive at innovative approaches setting benchmarks in the industry. Expected outcome of it is to be a large cooperate entity and for NKAR to offer a delightful travel experience to the incoming and outgoing traveller. Our endeavour is to win priority over competitors, keeping in line with our mission statement - 'to be your preferred travel and destination management company'!

In 1980 the company was named NCAR harmonising with the name 'Nanayakkara' as the investment came from the Nanayakkara family and also keeping in line with the focus in business of car rental.

Within the first five years NCAR became a recognised entity in airline ticketing and won the gold award from a leading airline for passenger sales in 1987.

Moving into the second decade in business the organisation began to further expand into destination management as well by servicing incoming tourist groups and established its international links in European countries.

By the end of 90's NCAR climbed to the top in the area of airline ticketing. We moved into our own premises and structured the organisation to be 'Your Travel House'. In 2000 we gave emphasis to expanding of corporate travel and also developed a new strategic business unit within the company to cater to Sri Lankans who travel to other countries on packaged holidays.

This unit was designed to offer incentive tour packages to medium and large business conglomerates, he said.

The company is celebrating 25 years at the forefront of travel and tourism.
