Tea factories record top prices

Akuressa Group Correspondent

The Neluwa-Medagama and Halwitigala smallholder tea factories of the Tea Smallholder Factories Limited (TSFL) recorded substantial growth in production last year.

These two tea factories manufactured one and a half million kilograms of orthodox teas increasing productivity last year. They were successful in improving the factory average price to Rs. 237 last year and paid a top green leaf rate Rs. 37.75 per kilogram recording the highest price in the history of the factory.

The Neluwa-Medagama and Halwitigala tea factories have promoted their theme "Quality Product - the only way Forward" at their tea factories. As a result tea smallholders supplied quality leaf to these factories.

The Neluwa factory has also provided a summer hut for smallholders as their rest room when they bring leaf to the factory.
