Peterites beat Joes by 72 runs

Skipper and opener Prajeev Jansz hit a well compiled half-century (82) and Lahiru Peiris scored an aggressive 59 to power Peterites to a 72-run victory over Josephians in their 31st limited-over schools' cricket match for the Fr. Peter a. Pillai memorial trophy played at R. Premadasa Stadium yesterday. For Peterites, it was their 13th win in the series. They last won it in 2002.

Peterites' formidable total of 257, their highest in the series, was based on Jansz 113-ball 82 runs with 6 fours Peiris quick-fire 54-ball 59 with 4 fours and 2 sixes. Two productive stands between Jansz and Hans Fernando (37 with 3 fours and 1 six), 88 runs for the 3rd-wicket and Peiris and Delan Udugamsuriya (23), 76 runs for the 7th-wicket, also helped swell the total.

The Josephians were shot out for 185 in 41 overs.

The only bright spot in the Josephian batting was that of the 56-run stand for the 8th-wicket between Christopher Fleming, who top scored with 43 (3 fours), and Prajeeva Weerasinghe unbeaten on 25.

The awards - Best Fielder - Dasun Randika (St. Peter's), Best Bowler - Sameera Weerasinghe (St. Joseph's), Best Batsman -Rajeev Jansz. (St. Peter's) and Man of the Match Prajeev Jansz (St. Peter's).
