Peterite Lahiru Peiris tops 10,000 - vote mark in OBSERVER-BATA All-Island Contest

Peterite Lahiru Peiris is lining himself for the second successive OBSERVER-BATA Most Popular Schoolboy Cricketer of the Year All Island Trophy.

At the end of voting on coupon No. 7, Peiris has topped the 10,000 vote-mark, collecting 10,026 votes in all, with Royalist Dulanjaya Wijeratne in second place with 8,599 votes. However, the most significant featur of the voting last week was the entry of D. S. Senanayake College cricketer Damith Gunaratne to the fray from outside the first ten.

Gunaratne had so far collected 6,735 votes and is presently in third position in the All-Island Contest.

He displaced Promodth Fernando the St. Anthony's College, Katugastota skipper who is now in fourth position with 4,343 votes.

Josephian Hashan Gunatilleke keeps his fifth position with 2,671 votes and Thomian Kaushal Silva who was fourth last week drops down to sixth position with 1,877 votes.

In the Outstation Contest, Andy Solomons of St. Thomas' Kotte leads with 5,401 votes with Mohammed Shakir of Azhar College, Akurana second with 3,485 votes and E. V. Gangoda of Vidyartha College, Kandy third with 2,721 votes.

The two contests will end after the count on coupon No. 10. Today we publish coupon No. 9 and the following week it will be coupon No. 10 - the last week of voting.
