Train services near zero level - commuters by Deepal Warnakulasuriya Coast line train commuters complain that the railway services have come to a near zero level during the last two to three months. They also pointed out that cancellation of trains, delays and misinformation to commuters has doubled in the recent past. The commuters also claim that earlier at least a few office trains were deployed on time, but this has also been neglected now by the Railways management. Stoppage of the Panadura and Wadduwa bound trains at Moratuwa and elsewhere has now become a usual practice forcing commuters to waste their time unwillingly at stations. Commuters also claim that the public address system even at Fort Railway Station has been neglected by the authorities. "Sometimes, there is no announcement at all. At other times announcements are made after the train leaves the platform," they said. They further added that on some occasions due to misinformation provided by the stations, commuters have to get off somewhere on the way to their terminus. "We have also sometimes experienced that the authorities cancel two or three trains for which we had waited hours and hours at stations. We have also written to the authorities on fish transportation and the beggar nuisance in office trains. But, all our complaints have fallen on deaf ears", a daily commuter on the coast-line told the `Sunday Observer'. |
