Children's hospital to be set up in Kalutara by Chanuka Mannapperuma Dr. Thushara Wickramanayake, a Sri Lankan domiciled in United Kingdom has come forward to extend assistance to build a children's hospital in Nagoda, Kalutara. The proposed hospital comprising 400 beds will be built in a three acre land in Nagoda, Kalutara. "We are planning to complete the first phase of the project within six months," said Dr. Wickramanayaka adding that the whole project will be completed within two years. She is a daughter of Public Security, Law and Order Minister Rathnasiri Wickramanayake. She together with her husband Gary Cutter has thought of this project following the tsunami tragedy. Dr. Wickremanayake said, so far she has been able to collect a sum of Rs. 900 million. "This money was raised with the assistance of our friends, relatives and well-wishers in UK. The money was collected through the 'Milton Keynes Tsunami Appel Fund'. She noted that they had sold their personal vehicles to collect the necessary funds. Already, she had signed a MoU with Ministry of Health. Last week, she laid the foundation stone for the hospital.
